Aswe were eating breakfast, someone said "oh look" as we approached Cologne, Germany. What our ship was approaching was The Dom. I couldn't believe the enormity of what I was seeing.
Our tour began shortly after we docked. I've been trying to figure out how to describe this building. No words could do it justice. For me, it's an enormous symbol of the power of the church. The structure was built to uplift the worshippers, but took centuries to complete. It is an architectural marvel.
It is the most intricately carved and diabolical building I have ever seen in my lifetime.
We went back to see it after dinner.
The church nearby isn't too bad either.
This was the perfect place to be for St. Patrick's day. In one of the city squares, a house of a disgruntled tax payer has a statue near the top of the 3story building of a man pooping.
Across the way is a government building with this on the face:
A man sticking his tongue out!
We are getting to the middle of the Rhine, and a castle tour early in this morning. The terrain is mountainous, much different than the flat dikes and waterways we have seen so far.
Time for my German breakfast of cheese and thick bread.
